Does an adjustment hurt?

Not other than the fact that the area we need to touch is sore. Most patients report that the adjustment feels good. And remember, we do low force techniques so there is no wrenching or twisting or popping of the spine.

What is that popping noise?

At times a technique called diversified technique is utilized. In this technique two joints of the spine move and a nitrogen gas is released. This causes the popping sound.

How long will my initial visit take?

We like people to allot an hour for the first two visits. Subsequent visits may take anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour and fifteen minutes depending on your individual case. On the first visit we talk about your problem (or your child’s problem). We do an examination which involves orthopedic and neurological checks and a chiropractic evaluation. If subluxations are found we usually do x-rays. At times we will do something the first day to address someone’s acute pain. The follow-up visit entails reviewing the x-rays with you, performing a 10 minute spinal scan (surface EMG and thermograph readings), and discussing treatment options, and financial responsibility. If those options sound reasonable to you, we start care on that visit.

How long will it take to notice an improvement in my problem?

Your relief is our first priority. 75% or new patients notice a difference within the first week; many after their first adjustment. We expect to see at least subtle differences within the first two weeks of care. For most people with chronic problems we see at least 50% improvement in their symptoms after four weeks.

Once I start chiropractic care do I need to continue forever?

Many our patients use Chiropractic as part of their wellness lifestyle, along with healthy eating and exercise. Many patients use Chiropractic to alleviate symptoms only. Still others use Chiropractic to control chronic conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, and overuse syndromes.

Why do kids need to get adjusted?

Parents notice that once their children start getting adjusted, they sleep better, get better grades and have improved moods. Also, a child’s ability to fight colds, coughs and the flu are enhanced with regular adjustments. Children can get subluxated from the birth process, falls, sports, and rough play.

When should I use ice and when should I use heat?

Ice should be used for new injuries and if swelling is present. Heat should be used for muscle spasm and tightness. If you are unsure, ice is always safer. Heat can make you worse if swelling is present, usually within two hours of using the heat.
