Posture & Back Packs

It has become common, due to the wide use of back packs, for teenage years to be ''an era of hunched shoulders''. Both boys and girls are effected. Changes in young bodies, growth spurts, raging hormones and low self-esteem are a few of the many factors the contributing factors to bad posture. Standing tall and proud, with the head properly held on an erect spine is an invaluable habits for anyone to master, at any age. It is especially crucial in the important years of teenage development.

The teenagers of today spend hours every day carrying books, laptops and all kinds of other items in their backpacks. The load can weigh as much as 20 pounds. No wonder their frowning faces often seem to say "I have the weight of the world on my shoulders."

Also, teens spend countless hours hunched over, staring at a screen of one kind or another; whether a computer, laptop, video game, or cell phone. For the most part, they exercise only their thumbs, and that at warp speed. More time is spent staring at the TV screen, surfing a myriad of channels, again requiring only a thumb movement to operate the remote control. Sedentary activity takes a heavy toll on the spinal column and the muscles attached. Many times dire consequences are in store in the years ahead, and sometimes while still in the teen years.

Chiropractic adjustments in these important teen years will correct many problems with posture. Regular adjustment will also contribute greatly to a strong, healthy body, able to remain active through adolescense, adulthood and throughout a lifetime.
